Dressember - Raising Money to End Modern-Day Slavery

I discovered Dressember in 2015 and decided I had to be a part of it. I created a group called Fashion for Freedom with a fashionable Canadian friend of mine and we ended up making our fundraising goal! It was a really scary thing for me to do because I was worried that I wouldn't be able to raise enough money. In the end a - shall we say - Angel Investor (ok...my husband) submitted the last bit right before midnight on December 31st! What an "angel" indeed :)

Well, with Libya in the news, I was reminded about Dressember for this year. If you don't know what it is, it is a fundraising event during which the Advocates, as they're called, wear a dress every day during the month of December. It ain't easy! But it's a small price to pay for the ultimate goal. And it's way more up my alley than running a 5K. I don't run. Plus, one of the reasons I started Weardrobe was to be able to fund charity outreaches for women reintegrating into society from trafficking and/or jail. I'm nowhere near where I want to be but that is why you'll see me do things like the private shopping party for Truth for Women. 2018 is going to be a big year for advancements in this area of my business!

I know it's important to know where your money is going when you make charitable donations. Funds raised go to IJM, A21 and MacMahon/Ryan Child Advocacy Center.

IJM and A21 are on the ground all around the world, working with government agencies and police to bust up sex trafficking and labor trafficking rings, provide after-care and help victims of trafficking find dignity, purpose and a normal life.

A21 was founded by Christine Caine and I have high admiration for her on so many levels. I've met Chris, get trained by her every month as a Propel Women Chapter Leader and her message at a conference two years ago that planted the seed to find a way to help women through style as they make a new life for themselves and, especially, a new understanding of their worth.

I'd love for you to click HERE to learn more about the impact Dressember has been making for over a decade and watch out for my fundraising link where you can donate. It will be in this space tomorrow, Saturday December 2nd.
